Within the coastal region, palms, mangroves, Kopal spruces, teak and sandal-wood trees are predominantly found. In the lowlands up to a height of about 900 metres there are a lot of baobabs and acacias. Wide savannahs with scattered acacia and papyrus trees are the typical vegetation between 900 and 2,700 metres.
Kenya is famous for its breathtaking animal kingdom, especially for the big mammals amidst the savannah: Elephants, rhinos, zebras, gazelles, giraffes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes hyaenas and jackals. There is also a very rich bird life, amongst which you will find flamingos, shoebills, marabus, hornbills and various types of kingfisher.
