Geography

Kenya borders on Ethiopia and the Sudan to the north, on Somalia and the Indian Ocean to the east, on Tanzania to the south and on Lake Victoria as well as Uganda to the west. The country streches over an expanse covering 582,646 square kilometres, which is about 1.6 times as big as the Republic of Germany.

The highest mountain, with 5,199 metres, is the Batian. It is part of the Mount Kenya Massive. The lowest point, at 0 metres, lies on the 480 kilometre long coast along the Indian Ocean. The Tana, the Athi and the Kerio are the longest rivers in the country. The biggest towns are Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret and Kisumu.
