Almost 90 per cent of the Kenyan population are Black Africans. Besides these, there are a few minority groups of Asians, Europeans and Arabs. Altogether, about 32 million people live in Kenya. The average population density lies at 53 persons per square kilometre. 68 per cent of the Kenyans live in the country.
Swahili is the national language of Kenya. English is one of the two official languages and is widely spread because it is also the medium of language in academic institutions. Among the most important languages of the total 52 ethnic groups are additionally Kikuyu, Kamba, Luhya, Luo and Kalenjin.
