Nearly 90% of the Kenyan population are black Africans. Along side these there are minorities of Asians, Europeans and Arabs. Altoghether around 32 million people live in Kenya. The average population density is 53 people per square kilometre. 68% of the population live on the land.
English is one of the two official languages and due to the teaching in school is widely-spread. Swahili is the second official language and is also spoken on the coast around Mombasa. There are 52 languages in all and Kikuyu, Kamba, Luhya, Luo and Kalenjin belong to the most important of them.
