Travel arrangements

Passport
For your entry into Kenya, you need a passport which is valid for at least six months after the end of the visit. Children need a child's travel document with a photo.

Visa
For Kenya you need a visa which is available at the airport for 25 US Dollar or 20 Euro. For children under the age of 16, no visa charge is levied. You can also apply for your visa in advance at your respective Embassy.Travellers need to have at least one blank page for the visa and preferably a second blank page for the exit stamp. Visas are usually not affixed on pages containing any other information, hence the need for the blank page.

Sunscreen/First-aid kit
Besides sunscreen and your personal first-aid kit, we also recommend medicine for diarrhoea due to climatic changes. For your direct entry, no immunisation is necessary. If you travel to Kenya from an endemic yellow fever country (like Central Africa or South Africa) you have to present a legal yellow fever immunisation certificate. Please don't forget this, especially if you are planning a round trip through several countries. On principle, we recommend a malaria prophylaxis. Please talk to your family doctor about this.

An insect repellent for the tropics should be at hand as well. There are several hospitals with European standards in Mombasa. As there are no social security treaties with Kenya, you should ensure you have adequate medical travel insurance.

Currency
The Kenya Shilling (KES) is the official country's currency, 1 EUR is 100 KES (as of November 2009). We recommend you carry US Dollar traveller's cheques as well as some cash for visa payments with you. At Severin Sea Lodge you can pay with Euros as well as with established credit cards (Visa/American Express/Diners Club/Mastercard)

Luggage/Clothes
You should travel with summer light clothes, preferably cotton. For a safari you need comfortable shoes and a warm pullover for the evenings. Additionally, think of sufficient film- and photo material and binoculars.
Use sunscreen with high sun protection factor, sunglasses and a hat for protection.
