| 1. Do I need immunisation? Which article shouldn’t be missing in my first-aid kit? |
| For your direct entry, no immunisation is dictated. If you travel to Kenya from an endemic yellow fever country (like Central Africa or South Africa) you have to present a legal yellow fever immunisation. Please don’t forget this, especially if you are planning round trip through several countries. On principle, we recommend a malaria prophylaxis. Please talk to your family doctor about this. |
| 2. Can I book an excursion on site? |
| Yes, there is a reservation office for excursions on site. But we recommend to reserve from Germany in advance to assure the desired date and make use of price advantages. |
| 3. Does the hotel/camp offer only Kenyan or also international food? |
| Both. A rich breakfast buffet with offers for late-risers until noon starts your day. On Sundays a breakfast with champagne awaits you. You can have à la carte meals for lunch at Kisima Grill or Flame Tree Restaurant. In the afternoon, we offer coffee, tea and cake. Multiple course dinners with candle light take their turns with exotic buffets. The culinary highlight is a festive dinner at our à la carte restaurant Imani Dhow. The hotel bars offer numerous international beverages. |
| 4. Are there set meals or is there á-la-carte? |
| In the hotel you can help yourself to an ample buffet or choose from the á-la-carte menu. In the camp the meals are á-la-carte. |
| 5. What about breakers at the Indian Ocean? |
| The coast is secured by a outer reef. Therefore there are no high waves or sharks in the inner reef and bathing is safe. But swimming in the sea depends on ebb and flow. Due to the offshore coral reef, bathing at ebb is only limitedly possible. But at flow, a wonderful underwater world can be discovered on our glass bottom boat or while diving or snorkelling. To protect the environment, the Kenya Wildlife service raises a fee for this. Skinny-Dipping and being topless aren’t allowed in Kenya. |
| 6. What kind of clothes is recommended? |
| Light summer clothing, primarily made out of cotton, is preferable. Comfortable shoes as well as a warm pullover for the evenings are necessary for a safari. Otherwise do not forget to include adequate film and photograph supplies as well as a pair of binoculars. Sun protection cream with a high factor, a good pair of sunglasses and something to cover your head with are also a necessity. |
| 7. Is the city of Mombasa far away from the hotel? How many people live there? Can I go there alone? |
| Our hotel is located 12 km from Mombasa. It is a multicultural city with about 800.000 inhabitants and can be visited alone at daytime without problems. In the evening it is more secure to go there within a whole group. |
| 8. Are there doctors or hospitals near the camp or the hotel? |
| Near the camp, there is no doctor or hospital, we therefore offer the “Flying Doctor Service”. But the hotel has its own doctor. |
| 9. Is a fitness programme offered in the hotel? |
| There is a fitness programme e.g. water gymnastic, every day. |
| 10. How far is it from your hotel to the beach? |
| The hotel is located directly at the wonderful Bamburi beach. |
| 11. Is it possible to use appliances with a 220 V plug? |
| The voltage is 220-240 V alternation current. You need a triple-pole adapter. |
| 12. What is the time difference? |
Time difference to CET is one hour in the winter and two hours in the summer.

| 13. How high are the tips that are usually given? |
| In hotels and restaurants, service charge is included. Your contentment preconditioned, you should give a little tip. Waiters and maids normally receive about 250 KES per person and week. Your safari driver should receive about 500 KES per day. |
| 14. Can I pay by credit card at the hotel and camp? |
| We accept the established credit cards Visa, American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard and Mastercard, payment by cash card isn’t possible. Kenya Shilling is the country currency, we recommend to bring US Dollar traveller’s cheques with you. Exchange of money is only possible at licensed bureaus de change. At Severin Safari Camp, you can pay with Visa and Mastercard. |
| 15. When is the best time to travel? |
| In Mombasa there is a tropical coastal climate and it is therefore without doubt a target for the entire year. From November to the middle of April rain is an exception and the temperatures climb above 30°C. In May the rainy season begins and continues into June. But even then there is normally no continuous rain and the midday temperatures lie well over 25°C. The months from June till October usually brings the most pleasant temperatures for middle Europeans. In the highlands there can be periods of rain from April till June and from October till November. The nights are relatively cool. The warm period is in January and February with temperatures around 26°C. |

| Yes, both the hotel and the camp offer Wireless LAN access in all rooms/tents and public areas. |

| 18. How do I protect myself against malaria? |
| With insect repellent and long shirts and trousers in the evenings. Additionally, most of the hotels and camps provide mosquito nets above the beds. |
| 19. How long does the flight to Kenya take? |
| From Germany, the flight to Kenya takes about 8 hours. Direct flights are offered from Düsseldorf, Frankfort and Munich. |
| 20. What must I pay attention to when entering the country? |
You need a passport which when entering the country is still valid for at least another 6 months. Children need their own document, also bearing a photograph. On entering the country a visa is necessary, which for 50 American dollars (situation in October 2007) can be obtained at the airport. In order to ensure a speedy processing please have the required amount available when you arrive. This visa can be applied for at the appropriate embassy before leaving for Kenya. 2 weeks time is necessary for the processing. Citizens from other countries should ask about the entry requirements at their appropriate embassy.

| 21. How do I get from the hotel to the camp? |
| On the road safaris you travel by mini-bus. If requested, it is also possible to fly. The flight takes about 45 minutes. |

| Some categories of rooms have a television with satellite reception. |
| 23. Are there any shops at the hotel? If not, where can I go shopping? |
| There are several shops at our hotel which offer jewellery, souvenirs, photo- and film material, clothes as well as cosmetics. At the shopping streets and the bazaars of Mombasa you can chose from an exotic offer. Popular souvenirs are spices, tea, coffee, woodcraft and cloth. Please note that it is illegal to buy or export ivory, shells and corals. |
