UN Global Compact

Severin Sea Lodge and Severin Safari Camp joined the UN Global Compact          PDF

Sundern, December 2010: Severin Sea Lodge and Severin Safari Camp in Kenya joined the United Nations Global Compact. This is a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles.

The Global Compact allows business and non-business entities to proactively network and engage in areas of human rights, labour, environment, anti-corruption and contributing to UN goals in order to achieve the common objectives of building a sustainable and inclusive global economy. The initiative seeks to combine the best properties of the UN, such as moral authority and convening power, with the private sector's solution-finding strengths, and the expertise and capacities of a range of key stakeholders.

As a voluntary initiative, the UN Global Compact aspires wide participation from a diverse group of businesses. As a participant in the Global Compact, a company has to set in motion changes to business operations so that the Global Compact and its principles become part of strategy, culture and day-to-day operations. The companies are expected to publicly advocate the Global Compact and its principles via communications vehicles such as press releases, speeches, etc. Furthermore they are required to communicate with their stakeholders on an annual basis about progress in implementing the ten principles and undertaking partnership projects in support of broad UN goals. At the same time, companies are required to issue an annual Communication on Progress (COP), a public disclosure to stakeholders (e.g., investors, consumers, civil society, governments, etc.) on progress made in implementing the ten principles of the UN Global Compact, and in supporting broad UN development goals.
