Leila Smith handed over the award to Severin Schulte

Leila Smith from Thomas Cook UK personally hands over »Travelife» Gold Award to the Chairman in Kenya

Early this month, the resident manager of Thomas Cook UK, Leila Smith, handed over the »Travelife» Gold Award to the Chairman of Severin_kenya, Severin Schulte. The Severin_kenya team is very proud to receive this important award. It is a true demonstration to the excellent work being done at the hotel regarding environmental and community initiatives.

Severin Sea Lodge received the award for green and sustainable tourism. The hotel has been active in environmental issues for over 20 years and follows sustainable and future-oriented hotel operations. In the Travelife Sustainable tourism survey, hotels can score Bronze, Silver or Gold awards depending on the degree of their environmental commitment. Hotels like Severin Sea Lodge that achieved the Gold Status, displays advanced sustainability and eco tourism measures. They encourage others to be involved, seek continual improvement and actively communicate their progress.

We firmly believe that the private sector has to sometimes lead the way and work together with respective governments departments in making sure we lower our impact on the environment. Therefore at Severin Sea Lodge, staff and guests are trained in specifically organized seminars to get information about the environmental threats and how to protect Kenya’s coast and national parks. With illustrated charts which have been designed together with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), tourists get to know a lot about Africa’s natural treasures.

This was the year, when the camp was opened. Walter is still working with us, as a waiter & Ass. Manager of the “Out of Africa” Restaurant and the “Thorn Tree” Bar. We are very proud that Walter is part of our team and we wish him all the best.

Welcome at Severin Safari Camp

Visit of Hon. Esther Mathenge at Severin Safari Camp

Hon. Esther Mathenge, Minister for Gender, Children Affairs and Social Development in Kenya stayed at Severin Safari Camp for 3 nights. Amid the wonderful scenery of the Kenyan wilderness, she wanted to rejuvenate and to have a short relaxing break. She went on an excursion to Mzima Springs and she also relaxed at our KENBALI SPA.

On the last day she took part on our “Back of the House Tour”. She was fascinated to learn how we run this eco friendly luxury camp out in the bush. We showed her how we protect the environment with solar technology, high energy efficiency, a biological waste water treatment plant and strict waste separation. This is very important to ensure that the sensitive ecosystem of the African wilderness is protected.

It was a pleasure welcoming Hon. Esther Mathenge at our Severin Safari Camp and we are glad that she enjoyed her time in the bush.
