Official opening of the KENBALI SPA at Severin Safari Camp

The ceremonial opening of our new KENBALI SPA on the 21st of March was a very special event. Many guests from near and far came to participate personally and to enjoy the diversified program. Whether during the camp tour, the sunset cocktail reception at the pool, the ceremonial speeches, the picture presentation about the construction of the wellness area or the á la Carte dinner at the Out of Africa restaurant - the guests really enjoyed the time at Severin Safari Camp.

We were very pleased to host the German ambassador, Mr. Walter Lindner. Furthermore, we welcomed the Director of the Kenya Wildlife Service, Mr. Julius Kipng’etich. It was good to have so many local and international press agents and the positive feedback from all that attended.

Our wellness area is 430 m² and consists of a Ying Yang pool, a bar serving refreshing drinks and massage areas both under cover and open air. From the sun terrace, guests enjoy a wonderful view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Specially trained therapists revive the tired safari guests with relaxation massages such as „African Dream“, or indulge the skin with traditional African beauty secrets like soft cleansing-peeling.
”We intend to combine the authentic African feeling and Asian relaxation methods in our KENBALI spa“, explains Cornelia Schulte, wife of the owner Severin Schulte and independent cosmetician for more than 20 years who designed the spa.

We would be pleased to also welcome you to this wonderful place in the future.

Handing over of the TÜV certificates

Severin Safari Camp and Severin Sea Lodge were certified by TÜV Rhineland

TÜV Rhineland has awarded Severin Sea Lodge and Severin Safari Camp in Kenya with its international hallmark of excellence. In presence of the Kenyan minister of tourism, Hon Najib Balala, hotel owner Severin Schulte received the certificates at the Kenya Tourist Board (KTB) stand, during ITB Berlin 2009.
It is for the first time ever that the German auditing giant TÜV has inspected and certified a holiday destination in Kenya. Severin Sea Lodge, the popular beach hotel in Mombasa with its 200 rooms, and the four-star camp in Tsavo West National Park received their hallmark of excellence for service performance and spa quality.

“Our attention was particularly attracted by the concept of sustainable tourism of the Severin group in Kenya“, said tourism expert Olaf Seiche from TÜV Rhineland, who visited Kenya for the one-week audit. “It isn’t tourism at any price“, said Seiche and especially mentioned the ”careful handling of natural resources”, e.g. the biological wastewater treatment plant and the hotel’s very own organic farm in Mombasa. “This means that the quality of raw materials is of a very high level.“ Furthermore the TÜV auditor lauded „the unique combination of safari and spa“, which enables guests to relax during their stay at the camp. Additionally, the ”admirable guest assistance from wake-up-call to late evening” was positively mentioned.

We are pleased to have received this coveted certification from the TÜV Rhineland, because they are very important quality indicators apart from the hotel star ratings.

Andrew Muir welcomes Raila Odinga

Visit of Prime Minister Raila Odinga at the Severin Sea Lodge

Two weeks ago, we welcomed the Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga for breakfast at Severin Sea Lodge. Our general manager Andrew Muir informed him and his personal assistant about the activities of Severin_kenya. Mr. Odinga was very impressed with the new conference room at Severin Sea Lodge.

Mji Wa Salama

The Severin engagement in Kenya

For our company, the environment and sustainable tourism play a very important role. Both the hotel and the camp distinguish themselves in their extraordinary efforts towards environmental protection. They dispose waste by way of biological purification plants, a closed circuit recycling system for waste and solar energy for warm water. A hotel-owned bio farm in Kikambala near Mombasa is the main source for vegetables, fruits, chicken and eggs without the use of artificial fertilizer at both the hotel and camp. The Severin Sea Lodge was the first hotel in Kenya to employ a manager to look into environmental issues.

Severin Touristik GmbH wants to make a contribution to the improvement of the living conditions and the future leaders of Mombasa, therefore, we support the orphanage Mij Wa Salama, close to Severin Sea Lodge, which survives solely from donations.
The driving force is Mrs. Cornelia Schulte, the wife of the managing director of Severin Touristik together with Mrs. Inge Hoffmann for many years now.
Mij Wa Salama was founded in 1971 by a small group of people. At that time, there were only a few children, who came to the place of peace to get a bit of food.
Today, there are 60 children between the age of 4 months and 18 years, who have found a caring home. Many of the children were abandoned or abused, but at the orphanage they find security and affection.

Thanks to numerous activities organized in Kenya and Germany in the last couple of years, a lot of donations have been collected. For Cornelia Schulte, it is important that the money is received in Kenya and that it is also well spent.

When you also want to help the children or if you wish to get more information, please call us on +49- 2933-987-120 or send us an E-Mail to marketing@severintouristik.com.
