Discover Mombasa Dhow Safari - SSL 005

Join us on our historical excursion around Mombasa and enjoy a cruise aboard a traditional Arabian dhow

You are picked up by our driver at the reception of your hotel. You will be informed of the pickup time from your hotel at the time of booking. Our excursion around Mombasa starts at 10:30 am.
First, you will visit the imposing stone fortress of Fort Jesus. Built over 400 years ago by the Portuguese as a stronghold at the entrance of the sheltered harbour, it became the gateway to the "Dark Continent". The ancient fort is a spectacular example of 16th century Portuguese military architecture that has survived centuries of conquest and attack.
Afterwards, a short guided walk through the old town will give you a taste of some of the spectacular Swahili architecture and colourful atmosphere for which the Swahili coast is famous. Your way leads you to Mombasa's Old Dhow Harbour. You will go aboard a traditional Arabian Dhow and sail towards the Tudor Creek. Aboard the dhow you will learn the traditional use of the Khanga. You will also meet a traditional herbalist, who will impress you with his knowledge of herbs. Your way will lead you to the Jahazi Marine Jetty. Here, you disembark and visit the Floating Market. A Dhow builder will show you how the traditional Arabian dhows were constructed.
Afterwards, traditional belly dancers will welcome you to the restaurant where you will enjoy a delicious lunch. From the restaurant, you have a wonderful view of the Tudor Creek.
The excursion ends at around 03:30 pm and our driver will return you to the hotel.
